This furnished family home in the heart of Old City is the perfect home base for exploring the art and history of the city, enjoying the food and theater options of historic H Street, or for a tranquil setting from which to work. With all the amenities of home, such as a fully equipped kitchen, spacious closets, games and puzzles, a cozy gas fireplace, and jetted tub, this home provides you with a warm welcome to Washington, DC. The home sleeps 5 in the three bedrooms, with two comfortable queen beds and one comfy twin. With the additional sleep sofa and futon in the basement lounge and futon in the living room, you can easily host visiting friends and family. The master bedroom is sunny and bright, with workspace, comfortable queen bed, well-proportioned closet and large master bath with a jetted tub and double vanity. With a little careful positioning, you even have a "Capitol view" from the master bath. The other bedrooms face north to a park-like view of the tree-lined elementary playground across the street. These rooms share a freshly updated hall bath. Each room has a desk and television. The queen bedroom has a deep closet allowing for extra storage, along with a fully stocked linen closet in the hall. The house was built in 1909 and boasts mostly original heart pine wood floors and the original mirrored oak fireplace surround. DC can be a hectic city and Fairlight provides a haven at the end of busy days and a convenient base for enjoying the best of H Street. In the evening, take advantage of the large kitchen to cook delicious meals with food from Whole Foods or the local Farmers Market or end your day by exploring the many options along historic H Street into the Atlas District--don't forget to check out the shows at the Atlas! While the house is not fully baby-proofed, it is very kid-friendly. We provide a highchair and child-friendly dishes. The playground across the street is available during non-school hours and there is a small public playground one block away and another playground a few blocks beyond that. Another favorite activity of our children when young was to walk three blocks to the back side of Union Station to watch the busy train yard behind or seven blocks to a branch of the DC public library with a wonderful children's room. Within an easy bike ride you'll find the National Arboretum or the Capitol Mall. Fairlight House NE is located within a ten-minute walk from two Red Line Metro stations, two blocks from the H Street Streetcar and near several bus lines that can take you throughout the city. Staying here you are a pleasant 15-minute walk from the Capitol itself or just a bit more to the Mall and the many museums there. If you are here for work, Fairlight House is a quick bus or Uber ride down K Street or just 1.5 miles from the Convention Center. Bring your car (parking onsite!) and you can head further afield to Old Town Alexandria and Mount Vernon, FedEx field to catch a game or even a short 40-minute drive to the beautiful Annapolis Waterfront. Relax with friends and family after a long day of work or play by the gas fireplace in the living room, pull out the games and puzzles or just watch a movie on the large screen TV. The wifi is fast and reliable should you wish to stream movies via your laptop or Roku on the bedroom televisions or if you need to work from home.
